The Abridged Don Soltow Story

As told to Tom Bowman

I met Don at Joel's Raceplace in Greenbelt, Maryland in the mid 70's. He was an enthusiastic high schooler at the time, and loved to race. We formed the brp team with Tommy Flythe, a soldier stationed at Ft. Myer to race Group 15 cars at Joel's. Don was a superb driver and it didn't matter what it was he drove. We teamed up to race the famous 12 hour enduro in 1978 and our Martini Rossi Porsche 935 on a Aurora G-Plus chassis won easily.

We also raced at a big race in Frederick, Md. during 1978. This was extended Autoworld Clubman track, owned by Gene Keihl.

Racing action

After I left for Diego Garcia and then London, Don continued to race in the 12 Hour races...but I need to fill in this section. After being out of the sport for a few years, Don came back with a vengence at the Slot Car City track in Woodbridge and later in Manassas, Virginia. Here are some photos from the 1994 Mid Atlantic Championship Race at Slot Car City.

This will be continued later, once Don gives me some input!
